3Dimensional Coaching is a movement that continues to gain momentum in coaching communities all around the world. Although Jeff Duke has taught this content for years at the University of Central Florida, his message has gained an international audience largely due to his relationship with FCA. Over the last several years, numerous FCA Staff members have brought Jeff in to share the 3D content, primarily at FCA Coaches Ministry events.
The common response from coaches who attended workshops over the years was, “We want more!” Because the initial demand for “more” came primarily as a result of various FCA events, FCA took the lead (with Jeff’s blessing) to train FCA staff members to deliver 3D content in an effort to meet the growing need. The movement has grown organically over the years, and the evolution went as follows:
- 2006-2011 – Jeff Duke, as the only 3D “presenter,” traveled and trained 3D content all across America
- Coaches were left wanting “more” training, thus creating a need to replicate Jeff
- 2012 – FCA established the 1st “Coaches Ministry Academy”
- The aim was to gather and train FCA staff to learn more about the 3D Coaching framework
- 2013 – FCA conducted year 2 of the “Coaches Ministry Academy”
- We filmed 3D content and created the www.fcacoachesacademy.com website to help meet the demand for training
- CMA attendees were trained to present a basic intro/overview of the 3D framework, and then to send coaches to the FCA Coaches Academy website to be trained if they wanted more
- 2014 – FCA conducted year 3 of the “Coaches Ministry Academy”
- Once again, CMA attendees were trained to present a basic intro/overview of the 3D framework, and then to send coaches to the FCA Coaches Academy website to be trained if they wanted more
- The 3D Institute was created because:
- Sport administrators began expressing an interest for their coaches to be “certified” in the content in such a way that they could monitor their progression through the online content, and they expressed their need for a version that wasn’t explicitly faith-based
- Coaches began expressing interest in taking the course for college credit to apply towards CEU’s, teaching/coaching re-certification, and college degrees
- FCA leadership determined that the academic world of “accreditation” and “certification” is clearly outside the scope of FCA
- 2015 – FCA changed the name from “Coaches Ministry Academy” to “3D Presenters School”
- 3D Presenters School attendees were “certified” to train specific 3D content in professional development settings
- For the first time, non-FCA staff were empowered and certified to train 3D content
- In order to establish clarity and simplify FCA’s role, FCA leadership concluded that ALL certification (for coaches and/or presenters) is to be officially handled by the 3D Institute moving forward
- FCA leadership entered into an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) agreement with the 3D Institute to license the faith-based version of the content and to be the official “level 3 partner” whose primary role is to follow up with coaches who express interest in FCA for help with the spiritual development of their programs
- All of the 3D intellectual property, copyrights, and trademarks were secured by the 3D Institute
- Jeff Duke’s long-time friend Mike Millay accepted the position of COO to establish the business operations of the 3D Institute
- The policies and procedures of this online training were established
The organic nature of this movement, and the evolution that is outlined above, has caused a lack of clarity about who owns the 3D Coaching content and what exactly the role of both parties (FCA & 3DI) is. This online course is designed to bring a clarity of understanding for our certified presenters so we can align our efforts and communicate with unity moving forward.
